Terms of service

Last updated: 9 October 2026

1. Who we are

These terms apply to foretold.shop and intake.foretold.shop ("Foretold", "we", "us"), operated by Middleton Limited, 300 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Contact: support@foretold.shop. By placing an order you accept these terms and our privacy policy.

2. What Foretold is

Foretold creates a personalised life-story book about someone you love (for example your mother, father or grandparents). You answer questions by speaking or typing. Our software, which uses artificial intelligence, writes the book and creates the cover from your answers, and a person checks it before it is delivered. The book only tells what you and your family share with us: we do not invent facts about the person's life.

3. Free preview, then your order

  • You can answer the first questions and read a free preview (cover and first pages) without paying.
  • If you choose a format (digital, hardcover or both) and pay, a contract is formed when we confirm your order by email.
  • After payment you finish the story. You can invite family members with a shared link to add their memories.
  • When you submit your answers, we write the full book and send you the manuscript.
  • One revision round is included. Nothing is printed until you approve the manuscript. Approval is final.

4. Prices and payment

Prices are shown at checkout, including VAT where applicable. Payment is made in full at checkout through Shopify's secure payment providers. Import duties outside the country of printing may apply.

5. Right of withdrawal

Your book is made to your specifications and is clearly personalised. Under article 16(c) of Directive 2011/83/EU (and article 16(m) for the digital book, where you ask us to start right away) the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply. Our own, more generous cancellation and refund rules are in our refund policy. Your statutory guarantee rights for defective products always remain.

6. What you share with us

  • Share only what is true to the best of your knowledge, and only what you are allowed to share. This includes photos (make sure the people in them agree) and information about other people.
  • Do not submit content that is unlawful, hateful, defamatory or that infringes someone else's rights. We may refuse or remove such content, or cancel the order with a refund.
  • If you share the family link, everyone with the link can read the answers (except your letter) and add memories until the book is finished. You can make a new link at any time; the old one then stops working.
  • You give us permission to use what you share only to create, print, deliver and support your book. We do not use it to train AI models.

7. Artificial intelligence

Text, cover images and transcripts are created with the help of AI. AI can make mistakes, which is why you check and approve the manuscript. Realistic AI images are not portraits of the real person. We do not claim that a human author wrote the book.

8. Your book and its rights

The book is for your personal and family use: you may keep it, give it and share it with family. You may not sell or publish it commercially without our written permission. We give you all rights we hold in your book's text and images, but because parts are generated by AI, we cannot guarantee that the book is protected by copyright. The Foretold brand, design and software remain ours.

9. Not advice

A Foretold book is a personal, creative keepsake. It is not therapy or medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. If writing about the past is difficult, every question can be skipped and we encourage you to talk to someone you trust.

10. Delivery

Delivery times are explained in our shipping policy. If we cannot deliver within 30 days of the expected date for reasons within our control, you may cancel and receive a refund.

11. Liability

We are responsible for making and delivering your book as agreed. Our liability per order is limited to the amount you paid, except where the law does not allow a limit (for example for intent, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or mandatory consumer rights). We are not liable for the accuracy of what you or your family submitted.

12. Changes, law and disputes

The version of these terms in force when you ordered applies to your order. These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live and may bring a claim there. Please contact support@foretold.shop first: we aim to solve every complaint within 14 days.
